2005
Financial considerations force a radical restructuring at Insight Arts. IA decides to temporarily become an entirely volunteer run organization. Our Executive Director, Craig Harshaw and Anita Alcantara agree to volunteer to maintain all program commitments through the end of 2005. This allows Insight Arts to begin the process of retiring all debt and building cash reserves.
This does not stop Insight Arts from continuing to maintain a very high level of cultural programming and educational events. IA resident ensembles Pintig Cultural Group produces a series of staged readings by Filipino and Filipino-American playwrights throughout the year and produces a series of one act plays adapted from the writings of Bienvenido Santos. Tamboula Ethnic Dance Theater produces a dance theater piece exploring the history of the colonization and liberation of Haiti. Visbility Counts produces an original performance installation exploring issues of the state and marriage. Insight Arts employs 30 young people as performance artists in our summer performance program in collaboration with CIRCA a new resident ensemble.
