Patriarchy, Heterosexism and Ableism
Insight Arts links sexist oppression (the belief in the superiority of the male gender) to heterosexism (the belief in the superiority of opposite sex gendered monogamous relationships) and ableism (the belief that certain bodies are more worthy of rights and life then others). We see all of these forms of oppression as related to the idea of a social hierarchy related to the body and the use of the body. Insight Arts works for the day when all bodies are seen as worthy and legitimate. We see ableism related to ageism (the belief that youth and old age are less politically and socially legitimate categories of life). |
